Key assumptions for premarital relationships As a believer involved in any premarital relationship, you must assume the other person does not belong to you—that he or she may ultimately belong to another. Until marriage vows are exchanged, there are no guarantees. You should operate as if you are getting to know another man’s future wife or another woman’s future husband. Treat them with the respect you hope someone is showing your future spouse, and avoid inappropriate erotic behavior—sexual immorality—that selfishly “takes advantage” of what rightly belongs only to their future Adam or Eve.
